Rep. David Wolkins, R-Winona Lake, is author of bill that would close public access to birth and death records. These records now used by genealogists, journalists and others either to trace family history, confirm identities or search for potential cancer clusters. Assigned to House Public Health Committee, chaired by Rep. Vaneta Becker, R-Evansville.

Update (4/18/05): Bill died when it failed to get a committee hearing in the House. Concept not expected to resurface during this legislative session.
