ICOG board member Dan Byron is used to fighting attempts to restrict openness in Indiana, and now he has the chance to do the same in west Africa.

Byron recently was selected by the International Senior Lawyers Project and The Open Society Initiative for West Africa to head up their project involving the establishment of a media defense bar for various countries in west Africa.  He will be in Africa two months, beginning Oct. 1, and will work with lawyers there to end impunity for violence against journalists, publishers and broadcasters and to combat laws that limit freedom of expression.
