The Indiana Coalition for Open Government has signed on to a national effort urging lawmakers to support major improvements to the federal Freedom of Information Act.

OpenTheGovernment.org, of which ICOG is an affiliate, is leading the letter-writing campaign to promote S.849. The bill, called the OPEN Government Act of 2007, would make more than a dozen substantive changes to close loopholes in the FOIA and make it easier for requesters to get the records they request under the Act.

An initial round of letters went out to Republican Senators on May 2. The recipients included Indiana’s senior senator, Richard Lugar. Follow the link below to read a copy of the letter:
