Indiana Coalition for Open Government is leading a statewide effort to form an independent commission that would set rules and procedures for gubernatorial candidate debates.

Indiana Coalition for Open Government hosted a meeting in February to discuss whether a statewide debate commission should be formed for upcoming gubernatorial elections.

Why? An independent commission would tend to level the playing field for candidates and open up the forum for as much public access as possible.

More than 20 people representing citizen and journalism groups attended the meeting at WFYI studios in Indianapolis and all agreed to potentially form a governing body. Watch for updates on this site and more formal news to be announced later in the year as the conversation continues.
