Redwood Toxicology, the lab company at the center of an investigation into falsified drug test results affecting dozens of Indiana Department of Child Services cases in Delaware County and likely others statewide, removed itself from consideration for a new contract with DCS just days after news of that investigation broke.

According to an award recommendation letter released by the Indiana Department of Administration Wednesday, a recent request for proposals for a drug testing contract with DCS garnered four responses, including Redwood and its parent company, Abbott Laboratories.

Redwood said it would launch an audit to determine how many cases were affected. That audit, which a DCS spokeswoman confirmed the agency received in November, has not been made public. IndyStar submitted a public records request seeking access to and a copy of the audit in early December, but that request remains unfulfilled.
