Bloomington, Ind.—Special Judge Jane Craney ruled that records in the Bob Knight firing are not public due to attorney-client privileges that make “work product” papers confidential. The Indiana Court of Appeals sent the case back to Craney after ruling that the documents could be made public if Fred Eichhorn and John Walda were acting as trustees, not lawyers, in the controversial 2000 firing. The Indianapolis Star sued IU five years ago claiming that the university violated the state’s open records law. The Star will not appeal.
