Mayor Peterson. Announcement of $24 million in public assistance for five-star downtown Conrad hotel comes during outcry over route cutbacks on cash-strapped IndyGo. Poor timing or poor priorities?


Attorney General Steve Carter. Supports Sen. Brandt Hershman’s (R-Wheatfield) effort to amend Indiana Constitution to ban same-sex marriages. And we thought conservatives were against excessive government involvement in private business.


Indiana Democrat House Leaders. Rep. Scott Pelath (D-Michigan City), chairman of the House Rules and Legislative Procedure Committee, says constitutional ban on same-sex marriages won’t get heard in the House.


Indiana economy. Colts couldn’t quite reach the top two, but U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics ranks Indiana second in country only to California in number of initial unemployment claims in December 2003.


Mitch Daniels. Budget he oversaw now at $477 billion deficit, and former Bush Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill’s book says Daniels flip-flopped under pressure and oversaw politically-motivated fudging of deficit numbers.
