Fresh from the printer comes the new and updated Handbook on Indiana’s Public Access Laws. The book is a collaboration among ICOG, the Indiana Public Access Counselor’s office, and the Hoosier State Press Association (HSPA)

This is the first update of the useful guide since 2003. It contains the latest texts (current through the Indiana General Assembly’s 2008 session) of the Indiana Access to Public Records Act, the Indiana Open Door Law and the statute covering the Indiana Public Access Counselor (PAC). It also includes information on court cases interpreting the statutes.

The handbook contains handy reference materials such as a checklist for requesting public records, a sample records request letter, sample meeting notices, and a copy of the PAC’s formal complaint form.

ICOG received a grant from the National Freedom of Information Coalition and the Knight Foundation to print 4,000 copies of the handbook. We will be mailing two copies to each county government in the state and have provided more than 500 copies for distribution by the PAC. In addition to the $5,000 NFOIC grant, HSPA contributed $1,000 for printing and distribution.

ICOG members can request a copy to be mailed to them by sending an e-mail to info@indianacog.org . It can also be downloaded at the PAC’s Web site or by clicking the links below.
